Commercial tile encompasses the various types of tile that are made from clay form or clay mixture and then fired in a kiln. These tiles fall into two categories, porcelain and ceramic tile.
Porcelain tile is highly durable, water-resistant, dense and smooth, made by pressing together porcelain clays or sand like mixture. Due to the moisture absorption rate, porcelain tiles can be installed outside where ceramic tiles cannot. Ceramic tiles are typically made from a red or white clay and used for light to moderate foot traffic, and are offered at lower cost than porcelain. When coated with glaze, ceramic tiles are extremely resistant to scratching. Natural stone tiles are made from rocky materials found in the earth and are very durable.
